Chlorine Bleach: Helping to Manage the Flu Risk

Flu Facts

Each year 50 to 100 American children die from complications of seasonal flu, which tends to hit the elderly the hardest. Seasonal flu kills an estimated 36,000 Americans annually.

The 2009 swine flu has been compared to other similar types of influenza virus in terms of mortality: "in the US it appears that for every 1000 people who get infected, about 40 people need admission to hospital and about one person dies."

The swine flu is most contagious during the first five days of the illness although some people, most commonly children, can remain contagious for up to ten days.

Diagnosis can be made by sending a specimen, collected during the first five days for analysis.

A pandemic is basically an epidemic that spreads to more than one continent.

According to the package insert, a multi-dose vial of the H1N1 flu vaccine contains about 25 micrograms of mercury per dose. In comparison, an average can of albacore tuna contains about 60 micrograms of mercury. So the vaccine offers a dose of mercury that is less than that in 1/2 can of tunafish.
